Kilo Health Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary: Milestones and Lessons

News

A whole decade has raced by in the blink of an eye for us at Kilo Health, and what better way to celebrate than to reflect on the milestones and lessons over the years?

Do you know where we started? Listening to this tale from the beginning will make you even prouder to be here, trust me. So, read on (this might be a command from me).

And, don’t forget to put on your party hats.

The first page of our book

Let me hop into my trusty time machine and whisk you back to 2013, the year when two brilliantly creative, and slightly cheeky, guys (Tadas Burgaila and Vytautas Krutulis) decided to kickstart our company.

We started with one tiny office room, 7 people, one product, and some ginormous dreams of spreading health and wellness joy to our customers. ‘Aludariai’ wasn’t even a word in our book back then.

In that first year alone, we attracted 150,000 local customers and decided to try to expand to other countries. We learned that if you can successfully acquire that many local customers, you’re likely to be of interest globally.

Hence, in 2015 we stepped into Eastern and Central Europe, before introducing our innovations to the huge US market in 2017.

We nailed it

Paint a heart over 2018 and 2019 in your calendar, as these are the years we really began to make our mark on the global digital health industry. And, as mentioned previously, it’s a good thing we didn’t fear to step outside of our country.

Speaking of our products, take Keto Cycle, for example – it was a big hit because it rode the wave of the trend in the US, and there weren’t many options back then. But if we had only stuck to that one nutrition, we would’ve hit a roadblock. Hence, we had introduced 30+ new products since then. It’s important to keep researching, try out new things, and meet various audience needs.

We brought you the personalized diabetes guru, Klinio, the intermittent fasting sidekick, DoFasting, and the lifestyle genie, Keto Cycle

Just a year later, the DoFasting app skyrocketed to the top spot in the App Store’s ‘health and fitness’ category.

Kilo Health also hit another milestone in 2019, by acquiring one million paying customers in just one year. We began to actively invest in research and development, and in turn, people started recognizing our hard work and falling in love with our products.

Despite the pandemic throwing us a curveball in 2020, everything we did started paying off, and we kept growing at a rapid pace. We were thrilled to join important associations like the Digital Therapeutics Alliance and Matter Community, and in-house, we launched our free mentoring program, Kilo Academy.

Yeah, we’ve been busy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

A standout two years

We’ve certainly come a long way from that one tiny office and our initial seven team members. Regardless, some of our best moments of 2021 include opening two new offices in Europe and our new headquarters in Vilnius, all while bringing aboard 445 fresh team members.

While experiencing hypergrowth may seem cool, it has also made us realize that the infrastructure and the onboarding process are crucial, as they set the tone of your whole journey in the company.

2021 was a catalytic year for our product portfolio too – we were proud to create the first-ever physical product — Cardi Health blood pressure monitor. And not to be outdone, we introduced Sensa, your very own personal mental health wingman, armed with the secrets of cognitive behavioral therapy.

But that’s not all – we also got two shiny awards in the first half of 2022. They proudly proclaim us as the second fastest-growing company in Europe, and the number one company in the Lithuanian technology sector.

Our journey has truly felt like a rocket ship to the stars (with a bit of turbulence), and we decided it was time to share the cosmic love with other health and wellness innovators. Cue the introduction of Kilo Ventures, a one-stop shop for companies to scale and accelerate their established digital products.

Hip hip hooray

Now, in 2023, we’ve just reached the 10-year mark – and believe me, this is only the start for Kilo Health. We will make mistakes, we will grow, we will succeed, and we will also face setbacks. It’s all part of the journey.

As our CEO, Tadas Burgaila, often puts it: “We’re flying a plane without a pilot.” So, let’s ensure we make smooth landings in the most fantastic destinations worldwide. Sure, there will be some turbulence along the way, and that’s perfectly fine.

With our highly successful in-house growth department, and programs such as Co-found and Ventures, our portfolio of more than 30 digital health innovations will keep expanding.

So, happy birthday Kilo Health, and a very happy birthday to each and every one of you — our incredibly amazing team members.
